Interface perfectly captures the nostalgia of the 60s and 70s with its “Past Forward” collection. These patterns evoke memories of times gone by. Old designs in a modern guise are back in fashion, and Interface has realised this perfectly with its collection. These iconic designs add a special touch to any room and are a real eye-catcher.
In today’s blog, we invite you to discover Interface’s retro collection. The collection is an incentive to be bold and bring more patterns back into interior design.
More about Interface – 50 years of design
Interface is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. This special anniversary was also the inspiration for their nostalgia collection, which we report on here.
As a global company in the flooring industry, Interface offers a wide range of products that we are familiar with – carpets, resilient flooring and vinyl flooring are just some of them.
The founder, Ray Anderson, discovered carpet tiles while living in Europe and brought the idea back home. This concept sparked a revolution in commercial flooring in the USA and subsequently spread worldwide. He immediately recognised the enormous future potential of this concept for modern office design.
Past Forward collection – Interior design with iconic designs
Past Forward – a tribute to 50 years of Interface. Iconic designs reinterpreted.
David Oakey, the designer of the collection, describes it as a fusion of traditional woven patterns with the innovative approach of carpet tiles.
“It seems the perfect time to revisit the best designs from our history, reminiscent of woven patterns from broadloom, with the style and look adapted to the construction of carpet tiles. The result is the Past Forward collection.” – David Oakey
Each product combines elements of the past with modern design. The result is a collection that exudes nostalgia while offering all the benefits of contemporary, modular flooring.
The ‘Past Forward’ collection consists of 14 products that contrast with Interface’s more neutral carpet tiles, LVT products and nora® rubber flooring. This carpet tile collection can be used to design spaces, whether through carpet runners, zoning, wayfinding or furnishing entire rooms, creating timeless style with a unique, positive and homely feel.
