Did you know that poor acoustics can significantly impair the productivity of your employees? Room acoustics play a central role in office planning – because at Hauser, we attach great importance to creating not only beautiful, but also functional and healthy working environments. And one thing must not be missing: perfect acoustics.
But what exactly do acoustics mean? Which aspects are really important? It was precisely these questions that were answered for our Young Stars at a special training course organised by König + Neurath. Bettina, Max, Anna and I expanded our knowledge and gained a certificate – thanks to the expertise of Uwe Seubert, a long-standing acoustics professional.
What did we learn?
Uwe Seubert introduced us to the basics of acoustics and showed us how much it affects our day-to-day work. Terms such as reverberation, direct sound and speech sound were not only explained, but their specific effects on employees in everyday office life were also illustrated. It was particularly exciting to learn which measures and equipment can optimise room acoustics.
After the theory came the practice: we looked around the exhibition and were able to see directly how different solutions work. This gave us lots of ideas on how we can advise and optimise offices acoustically in future – and with simple means!
Our conclusion?
The training was a benefit for all of us. Regardless of whether we had any previous knowledge or not, at the end we were all able to assess the acoustic condition of a room and suggest sensible solutions. A big thank you to Uwe Seubert and König + Neurath for this valuable training!
Here are a few more impressions from our Young Stars:
- Max: „It was fascinating to see how you can create something acoustically unique from a lifeless office. We also learnt that sound waves are converted into heat energy and why this is so effective. It was particularly exciting to find out at which Hertz frequencies our own language lies. We then took a close look at everything in the showroom and gained valuable insights that we can apply directly to future projects.”
- Anna: „Uwe showed us how easy it is to measure the reverberation time – we had to clap our hands and wait until everything had faded away. I also found the differences in sound when you clap in the middle of the room or at the back in the corner particularly exciting. He kept adding little experiments to match the topic, like when he stood in a corner and his voice suddenly sounded like it was coming through a megaphone – that was impressive! We also learnt that different sounds have different hertz frequencies – we were then able to test this immediately in the showroom to gain our own experience.”
- Bettina: „Understanding how sound is defined was very exciting for me! Seeing in the showroom how different materials influence the degree of absorption was incredibly informative and I now realise much more clearly that the acoustic effect in a room is the result of the interplay of several factors. It was also interesting to learn which things, such as plants, do not absorb sound at all. I was definitely able to take a lot with me for the future.”
And what will we take away?
This training course has once again shown us how important acoustics are for the feel-good atmosphere and productivity in the office. With this new knowledge, we can not only advise our own team, but also our customers even better and improve their working environments in the long term. Because at Hauser, we firmly believe that a good office concept is not just about furniture, but about well thought-out details – and that includes acoustics.
We look forward to incorporating this knowledge into future projects and thus designing even more workspaces in which people feel comfortable and can work productively!
Best regards,
Giulia
